I am addicted to the crunch of sugary candy canes! I made this delicious recipe for Candy Cane Chocolate Bark but I remember a couple of years ago, my cousins from America bought me these delicious candy cane chocolate-covered almonds from Trader Joes and I was obsessed! They were gone within a day and I knew I had to try to remake them!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE CANDY CANE CHOCOLATE ALMONDS:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
You’ll only need 3 ingredients for this recipe, which we love here! You’ll want to use the chocolate of your choice. I used white Lindt white, milk and dark chocolate. You’ll want some peppermint extract for that extra peppermint flavour and crushed candy canes! Everything should be available in most grocery stores in North America, especially closer to the holiday season!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients to make these Candy Cane Chocolate Almonds are:
- Chocolate – of your choice, but use one that easily melts!
- Peppermint Extract
- Crushed Candy Canes
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
Honestly, you just need a microwaveable bowl for melting the chocolate and a spoon to mix it all together, then a baking tray, parchment paper so they don’t stick and also some forks so you can easily dip the almonds in the chocolate, then strain it! Hopefully, you should have everything already, so you don’t need to spend any extra money but if you do, you can easily purchase things at a dollar store, online or at your local department store!
Here is some of my Amazon fav kitchen equipment!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
This recipe is super, super easy, so there really isn’t much to substitute out. However, I always encourage changing up recipes to suit your taste buds! Here are some suggestions you can try!
- Using mixed nuts so you have an assortment like cashews, pistachios, walnuts etc!
- Adding a pinch of flaky sea salt to enhance the chocolate flavour
- Dipping coffee beans!! (my personal fav)
- Sprinkling some cinnamon or nutmeg on top (the ULTIMATE Christmas combo!)
- Drizzling some caramel sauce on top
WHAT DOES CANDY CANE CHOCOLATE ALMONDS TASTE LIKE?
If you love anything chocolate and peppermint, you will surely love these chocolate-covered almonds! They’re sweet, minty, and perfectly crunchy! It is rich, creamy chocolate wraps around the roasted almonds for a toasty, nutty flavour, while the crushed candy canes add a cool peppermint crunch. The combo is festive and addicting, with the perfect balance of smooth chocolate, crisp peppermint, and satisfying almond crunch.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Almonds are awesome for keeping it’s freshness and texture! These Candy Cane Chocolate Almonds can last quite a while if stored properly!
- In the freezer: up to 3 months! Just let them come to room temp before serving so the chocolate softens slightly.
- At room temperature: about 2 to 3 weeks in an airtight container kept in a cool, dry place.
- In the fridge: up to 1 month, which helps keep the chocolate firm and the candy cane pieces crunchy.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
Yes! I am a huge fan of chocolate-covered almonds! Such a huge fan, they have to be banned from my house unless I’m fully in acceptance that with my lack of self-control, I may end up eating all my calories for the month in my bag of almonds, haha. If chocolate-covered almonds catch my eye, especially special flavoured ones, I am sold! Whenever I had the opportunity to travel to states or when my family from America would come visit me, I would always ask for whatever chocolate-covered almonds that Trader Joe’s would have available!
One year, my cousin bought me the candy cane chocolate-covered almonds from Trader Joe’s, and they were sadly gone after an evening of watching holiday movies 🙁 I didn’t think of recreating it until now, and I feel silly! It is actually super easy, and I will be making these every year!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
Note these can be made super quick if aesthetic isn’t a big deal to you, as you can crack the almond later on once the chocolate has hardened BUT if you want each almond to be coated in chocolate in the same shape and look like what you get at the store, you’ll need to allot a lot more time!

Candy Cane Chocolate Almonds
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Unsalted Roasted Almonds
- 1-2 Chocolate Bar(s) white, milk or dark is fine! your choice as long as it melts easily 🙂
- 1/2 tsp Peppermint Extract
- 1/4 Cup Crushed Candy Canes or as much as you'd like <3
Instructions
- In a glass bowl, break apart your chocolate bar and microwave until fully melted. I generally heat them in 30-second intervals, stirring each time until all the chocolate is fully melted.
- Prepare your baking tray and line it with parchment paper! Make sure there is room in your fridge or freezer for them to harden.
- Next, add your almonds into your melted chocolate, then use a fork to scoop either small clusters of them or each one up. Let the excess chocolate drip before placing them onto your parchment paper-lined baking tray.
- While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle your crushed candy canes on top.
- Once all the almonds have been dipped, placed on the parchment paper and have crushed candy canes on top, place in the fridge for 4 hours!
- When the chocolate has completely hardened, enjoy! Happy eating!
