Read more for all the details on Instant Pot Apple Cider.

I’m ashamed to say that I only tried apple cider last year… I KNOW. How?! As someone who prides herself in loving Fall to bits, not trying apple cider until recently shocks me.

I guess I am just too wrapped up in pumpkin spice! In all honesty, I never truly liked apples as I always thought them to be plain and basic. I usually liked more unique or seasonal fruits like mangos, nectarines, kiwis etc.

My husband loves apples and has one every single day so as I had to add it to our weekly grocery list, I grew to love it more too. I tried apple cider when I went to the pumpkin patch last year and fell in love. I made a batch of my own in my slow cooker and let it cook for 8+ hours.

I was gifted an instant pot for Christmas by my cousin and I thought why not make an instant pot recipe for less time! This recipe will be done with an instant pot but you can definitely do this on the stovetop or slow cooker as well.

Do you like apple cider? What’s your favourite Fall drink?! I’d love to know in the comments!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT APPLE CIDER:

WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients for this instant pot apple cider are super super easy to find! I personally love apple picking at my local farms then using those apples to make apple cider. You’ll need to pick up your apples and oranges from a farmers market or your local grocery store then all your spices from the spice aisle! I use brown sugar in this recipe but you can definitely use any sugar on hand so you don’t need to spend extra money if you don’t have brown sugar at home!

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients to make this delicious Instant Pot Apple Cider are:

  • Apples any kind you prefer
  • Orange navel
  • Cloves
  • Star Anise
  • Ground Nutmeg
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Brown Sugar
  • Water

WHAT TYPE OF APPLES SHOULD I USE?

I definitely think about the kinds of apples there are more often than not. I have tested every apple I find and I prefer red delicious or gala apples. My husband prefers ambrosia and for this apple cider, I literally mixed all of them including the battered and bruised ones. You can use any apple you prefer for this recipe!

WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?

The time breakdown to make this quick Instant Pot Apple Cider is only about 30 minutes. Generally, I would do the slow cooker for 8 hours but this is a quick and easy version! I love this recipe because nothing needs to be finely chopped and will be strained later on so not a lot of effort goes into this. The entire time to make this cider includes:

To Prepare– this includes roughly chopping your fruits and dumping all the ingredients into your instant pot

Time: 10 Minutes

To Cook– this includes setting the instant pot time and letting it cook under high pressure

Time: 15 Minutes

Total time from start to finish: 25-30 Minutes

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

The equipment needed to make this instant pot apple cider is very minimal. All you need is a chopping board and knife to cut the apples and orange. Measuring spoons and cups to measure out the sugar, water and spices and the instant pot to cook it in!

Last but not least, you’ll need a strainer. A metal one works fine but a cheesecloth works the best and keeps away any bits!

WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?

The steps to make this quick Instant Pot Apple Cider are:

  • Prepare â€“ all the ingredients. Cut the fruits and measure the spices.
  • Dump and Stir â€“ all the ingredients in the instant pot.
  • Cook – all the ingredients in the instant pot
  • Strain, Pour, Serve – and enjoy!

CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?

This recipe is pretty standard for apple cider so there isn’t too much you can substitute or add. Again, you can use any apples you please and also sweeteners. I used brown sugar but you can use honey, maple syrup, Splenda or even plain granulated sugar.

If you want to make this a boozy recipe, you’re welcome to add in some alcohol like brandy, spiced rum, baileys salted caramel or even caramel vodka! It’s up to you with what alcohol you like!

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

This Instant Pot Apple Cider literally tastes like Fall in a cup. It’s rich and warm like a hug. I have enjoyed it warm then stored it in the fridge and the following day pour some over ice. I’ve also just reheated it in a microwave and stovetop too! You taste a little bit of everything. You can taste the apples, of course, the oranges, star anise, cinnamon, cloves and nutneg.

I personally prefer light-tasting, crisp apple cider so I don’t put too many spices in there but if you want it more heavy tasting then you can feel free to add what you like! You can always alter the mixture too after it’s cooked and add in what you want.

HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?

This instant pot apple cider keeps every well if you can last that long! Store in the fridge for up to 7 days and enjoy over ice or reheat it.

When you’re storing it, store it in a glass pitcher and make sure that the apple cider has fully cooled before putting it in the fridge to chill.

WHAT GOES WITH THIS INSTANT POT APPLE CIDER ?

This quick instant pot apple cider is perfect for someone who loves apple juice and has never had it hot OR someone who wants to enjoy a fall drink without it being a PSL! This drink is excellent to make in a big batch and to serve in a drink dispenser for guests! Add in some fresh sliced apples too as garnish! Instant pot apple cider is great:

  • By Itself
  • With Booze
  • With Snacks
  • For Cocktail Hour

WHAT ARE OTHER VARIATIONS OF INSTANT POT APPLE CIDER ?

Some other variations of Instant Pot Apple Cider that I would love to try making are:

  • Instant Pot Apple Cider – this one has cardamom and a mixture of green/red apples and cranberries!
  • Instant Pot Apple Cider – this one is almost exactly like mine but has granny smith apples!
  • The Best Instant Pot Apple Cider – this one has ginger in it for a kick!
  • Hot Apple Cider – this one has no sugar and more apples!

MORE BOOZY APPLE CIDER RECIPES?

I found so many delicious boozy apple cider recipes that are awesome to serve to friends for a gathering or just store in the fridge for you to enjoy! Some other boozy apple cider recipes that are delicious are:

  • Apple Cider Mojito – fresh apple cider and mint together is delish!
  • Spike Caramel Apple Cider – caramel apples are my fav so this is mouthwatering!
  • Hot Apple Cider Buttered Rum – hot buttered rum is an excellent nightcap
  • Apple Cider Mimosa – brunch drinks anyone?
  • Apple Cider Margarita – and my fac alcohol, tequila! apple cider margaritas sound heavenly.

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?

My inspiration to make this delicious quick and easy instant pot apple cider comes from my last visit to the pumpkin patch. It was my first time having apple cider and I loved it! I picked a bag of 5 lb apples and bought it home and immediately started making a batch of apple cider in my slow cooker. I let it cook for about 8 hours and at the end of it, I knew I needed to make this every Fall from that point on.

Now, 8 hours is a long time and I thought there might be a lot of people like me who doesn’t necessarily have the patience to wait that long. I love the instant pot because it’s so quick to use and regardless of the dish, almost always comes out perfect!

Cleaning up was very minimal which I love because I’m a naturally messy person and I didn’t use a ton of different equipment and materials to get this done right.

COST OF THIS INSTANT POT APPLE CIDER?

This Instant Pot Apple Cider uses ingredients that you may already have at home. The best apple cider has to come from fresh apples picked at your local farmers’ market or farm. If you can, I highly recommend picking your own apples!

Based on my groceries in CAD, if you were buying EVERYTHING from scratch:

Instant Pot Apple Cider

  • Ambrosia Apples (5lb) – $7.65
  • Orange (2 pieces) – $2.62
  • Cloves (75g) – $3.15
  • Star Anise (50g) – $5.45
  • Cinnamon (150g) – $2.70
  • Nutmeg (125g) – $3.60
  • Brown Sugar (1000g) – $3.25
  • Water – FREE!!

Total: $28.42 (not all the ingredients were used and leftovers can be used for other recipes)

As all of these ingredients are new, if you just priced out the actual ingredients used in this cranberry cream cheese dip, it would come up to about $7.12.

ANY OTHER NOTES?

Not many notes for this one. You’ll need a strainer to strain all the mushy apples. It’s best to use a cheesecloth but a metal strainer works fine too.

Instant Pot Apple Cider

This Instant Pot Apple Cider is literally Fall in a cup! Freshly picked apples, an orange, and lots of Fall spices make this the perfect warm drink to enjoy during the cooler months.

Really have to give it a try to make it in a slow cooker, I usually do it on the stovetop and also add the oranges, they would make such a great add on! x
