Isn’t it crazy how we go through the holidays with so much joy, excitement and anticipation towards the new year then January rolls by and things start to simmer down and you’re thinking wow, this year is going by slowly?

And then you get spring and you’re like wow, time flies! Please slow down! I always feel this way and it honestly stresses me out. My brain works at a speed of 10000 km per hour and I easily can stress myself out with one thought leading to the next so quickly.

I can say with pride that I’ve worked hard on reverting the stress in my brain so I wanted to share a few of my tips as I know better than anyone the feeling of being too much in your head!

HERE ARE 4 THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU’RE STRESSED:

THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN CONTROL AND THINGS YOU CANNOT

Life is insane. Social media reminds us of how crazy the world can get every day and it gets to people. Not to say that they aren’t real problems but most of it is not in our control. An example for me would be the costs of owning a home. If you’ve been a reader of the blog for a while, you’d know how much of a dream it would be for me to own my home and get to renovate and decorate as much as I can and it makes me really sad whenever I hear news of the cost of buying a place!

I constantly have to keep myself on track and remember that it’s something that is not in my control and to just move forward with the things that are in my control and let it go. I know it’s super hard at first but when you think about it, you have the choice of wallowing in something that is out of your control or you can live your life and make a plan to help keep you on track even if the plan may be delayed.

FIND DIFFERENT OUTLETS TO BLOW OFF STEAM

This one is pretty standard I think for the most part. Everyone has different hobbies which they do to get their mind relaxed or turned off from work or other stressful things in life. It’s important to find hobbies that help you escape your normal work/life routines. For me, I’m in the tech industry and on the side, my platforms and blog are all about homemaking and DIY projects.

My outlets to blow off steam are watercolour painting and swimming! These are two things that I love doing but don’t necessarily relate to my everyday life at all so it’s easy to just relax my mind especially when I start to get tied up in my mind overthinking.

LAUGH IT OFF WITH A SHOW/PODCAST/MOVIE/FRIENDS

Sometimes, you just need to laugh off the stress. I feel the times when I get super stressed out and feel my face and body get tense so having a good laugh maybe watching a funny show/movie that you love, listening to a comedy podcast or even just a night in/out with friends just could be what you need to unwind!

I love hanging out with my family and friends to just brain dump a lot of what’s on my mind and laugh about it with a cocktail or 4 in my hands haha. Alternatively, as a quick remedy, I love watching shows like Modern Family, Friends, and Family Guy to laugh it off!

WRITTEN BRAIN DUMPS/LISTS GO A LONG WAY

Oftentimes, you tangled up in one scenario after another and I totally get it! My brain thinks at a speed of 100000 km per hour and it gets too much when I’m thinking about all these workarounds and plans. It helps to just get a blank piece of paper and unload all of your thoughts on paper.

I’m a very visual person and having something in front of me to read and look into is so important! By having everything in front of me and out of my mind, I can better understand what’s not in my control and what is and think of steps to solve the issue or remove it from my thoughts altogether!

I hope you enjoyed reading this! It’s not my usual content but it’s something near and dear to my heart because I’m not going to downplay it, I am incredibly stressed a lot. I am an overthinker and a planner so it’s very important for me to have ways to not get into my head so much as of course, stress is not healthy!

I’m unsure if I’ll ever really change as being impulsive and dreaming big is just who I am and I love it but I will be continuously working on myself to keep things at bay and control/reduce my stress!

Xo,

Lynn
