All my life I have been a super practical person. I’ve basically put myself on an allowance since getting laid off for obvious reasons but also because I know I have a spending problem and wanted to nip that in the bud in order to have the lifestyle I want in the future.

When I realized it was Valentine’s Day, I jumped at the opportunity to grab some home decor instead of the usual bouquet of flowers my husband picks up. I basically negotiated how even if he was spending a bit more to get my dried florals/stems, they would be waaaay worth it as they essentially last forever while a fresh bouquet will die within 2 weeks.

I made a solid argument if I do say so myself and I ordered myself a bunch of beautiful stems from a local florist, Oak and Willow. One of my predicted Home Decor Trends for 2021 is boho and this style incorporates a lot of dried stems.

I am obsessed with them and I can’t wait to open them! I ordered it last week and got it the next day. I was hoping to do a photoshoot with some of them which is why I also negotiated to have them earlier than Valentine’s Day haha.

I haven’t fully decided what I’m doing with them just yet but I literally bought a ton so I could put them everywhere and decorate most of our rooms with them!

Something about dried floral makes them so elegant too. I love how they are so fragile and lifeless but timeless haha. I may be rambling now but I honestly can’t contain my excitement!

You can totally dry some florals and stems on your own as well. Charity at Mornings on Macedonia dried out some Hydrangea Stems and they look gorgeous! Click here to read more on how she did it on her blog!

Here Are 7 Beautiful Ways To Decorate Your Home With Dried Florals/Stems:

Bouquets/Vases

This is the most standard way of course and the most common way people use their dried stems! Lots of florists are now selling tried stems and offering these arrangements for weddings. I love ceramic vases or watching people DIY thrifted vases and making them look ceramic. These stems are super popular in white vases! I guess because the stems are usually a darker brown or beige, they seem to stand out in white vases or jars!

On the Wall

You can do these multiple ways but the two that I’ve seen and adore is 1) a dried flower wall and it’s basically a bunch of stems spread out evenly. A more popular trend is the small glass vases with live plants and flowers which are just as beautiful! 2) A dried floral wall hanging. Both so beautiful but will be pricey as you’ll need a lot of stems to make the arrangement super fluffy.

Pressed Frames

This one is actually my favourite. If I were to own a handmade craft business, it would be this one. Have you ever seen one of those videos where there is a bunch of beautiful dried flowers in a floating frame? Those displays are so dreamy to me! Maybe one day, I’ll create these myself! As you all know, I love floating frame art and how versatile it is!

Wreath

This photo is from my Instagram and it’s from my living room pampas wreath! I also bought it locally from Beelongings Arch and it’s so gorgeous. I love how fluffy it is! I love how wreaths don’t need to be seasonal and they look beautiful all year around. Before, I used to associate wreaths with Christmas but now, I’m loving these dried grass ones!

Candles

If you make homemade candles as I do, a beautiful way to style them is to put pressed flowers on the side of the glass jar! I’ve never personally done this before but I would love to try the next time I make a batch of candles. Before you attempt this, please watch some sort of tutorial! I would hate for you to try this dangerously!

Resin Art

Resin art has been so popular lately especially since the pandemic started. Lots of artists are mastering this art style. I’ve seen beautiful trays, coasters, jewelry holders with dried floral stems and they look so pretty! I personally would prefer to stay away from resin art even though it’s so pretty because of the long-term effects of the environment with resin. They aren’t compostable or recyclable really so it’s not something I would love in my home but no hate to people who love them and create them! I would love to see someone figure out a nice eco-friendly way to make these then I’d be sold!

Ornaments

I know these are pretty seasonal but they are so gorgeous. I’d love to make some kind of wall hanging or maybe add them to a grid wall! Clear ornaments can be purchased from your local Dollar Store and each ball only needs a few flowers. I would love to do a tutorial on this! These are definitely going to be on my to create list soon!

Try and see if your local florist has dried stems. I know a lot of businesses are sadly going out of business because of the pandemic. Flower shops don’t currently have the demand for events so it is taking a toll on them. Fresh or dried are both great! I love having a mix at home.

I hope you enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed writing this! Dried stems are my favourite right now and bring so much peace to my home environment. I don’t have a green thumb but would love to have some succulents in the future as well.

Do you have any dried florals or stems in your house? I’d love to know what your favourite way to decorate them would be in the comments below!

Lynn

I was always confused at why people would want to receive a bouquet of flowers as a gift. They die so quickly, and then you have to clean up the bits that fall off. I love the idea of decorating with dried florals and stems, however, as they last so much longer! The pressed frames idea is lovely and would create a timeless piece that even my partner would like! – He loves flowers but has awful allergies, unfortunately.

Bit of a tangent, but my mum has recently started making homemade candles for herself, so I will suggest the pressing a flower on the side of the glass idea to her. ?

Thank you for sharing these ideas! It is nice to know there are ways to incorporate floral elements into my home, which do not affect my partner’s allergies. ?

The only dried florals I have are a potpourri that I keep fresh by adding essential oil from time to time. I never really tried to decorate my house with dry flowers because I never thought about it. You just brought it to my attention, so now I’ll probably consider it in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.
