Read more for all the details on Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas.

Pumpkin spice is the beloved Fall flavour! I love the combination of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice!

Chickpeas have been more prominent in my life recently as I’m trying to eat more whole and well I love chips. Instead of having chips, I like to roast really crunchy chickpeas. I have made a ton of savoury roasted chickpeas but never sweet ones so what’s better than making one of my favourite flavours in the world – Pumpkin Spice!

These Sweet Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas are the best combo of sweet and crunchy! The taste of roasted chickpeas is so mild so what you’re really getting is a pumpkin spice sugar mix! Such a great high-protein snack or dessert.

Do you like pumpkin spice? or pumpkin in general? I’d love to know!

PIN Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas FOR LATER:

Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas - Pin 1

Chickpeas are an excellent source of protein and great to substitute instead of meat! You could make chickpea patties or just top savoury ones in a bowl!

What’s your favourite way to season your chickpeas?! I’m always looking for new ways!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN SPICE CHICKPEAS:

WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients for these Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas are all available at your local grocery store. You could even buy these ingredients online! Amazon sells all these ingredients as they are all non-perishables. These ingredients last quite a while and luckily are used in a lot of dishes. None of the ingredients will be wasted and you can use them in many recipes!

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients for this Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas are:

  • Canned Chickpeas
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Olive Oil
  • Pumpkin Spice
  • Cinnamon
  • Granulated Sugar

WHAT TYPE OF CHICKPEAS SHOULD I USE?

The chickpeas you can use in this pumpkin spice chickpeas recipe can be either canned or dried. I use canned for convenience but if you use dried, you’ll need to take the extra step and rehydrate them before roasting! Garbanzo beans are basically the same so if you can’t find “chickpeas” on the label, garbanzo works as well!

I can’t speak on the quality of chickpeas so honestly, I use whatever is on sale or is decently price and enjoy them!

WHAT IS THE TIME BREAKDOWN TO MAKE THIS RECIPE?

This Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas is super easy and simple to make. The time breakdown for this recipe is:

To Prepare â€“ this includes washing and draining the chickpeas and measuring ingredients

Time: 5 Minutes

To Mix – this includes mixing all the ingredients together to coat each of the chickpeas

Time: 5 Minutes

To Bake â€“ this includes roasting and turning over the chickpeas

Time: 40-45 Minutes

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

The equipment used to make these Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas are very minimal. You’ll need a can opener to open the can of chickpeas. You’ll need some measuring spoons to measure the vanilla, olive oil, pumpkin spice, cinnamon and sugar. To bake the chickpeas, you’ll need a parchment-lined baking sheet and a spatula to stir up the chickpeas in the middle of roasting.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO PREPARE?

The steps to make these Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas are:

  • Drain & Wash – Open the can of chickpeas, rinse and drain
  • Measure – You’ll need 2 separate bowls. 1 for pumpkins spice, cinnamon, sugar mixture. 1 for oil, chickpeas, and vanilla.
  • Mix & Combine – Make sure each bowl is has all the ingredients thoroughly combined.
  • Bake – Roast the chickpeas for about 40 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Cool and Serve – and enjoy!

CAN I SUB/ADD ANYTHING OUT?

I would keep the main ingredients such as pumpkin spice, cinnamon, vanilla and chickpeas but if you wanted to use a different type of oil, you can!

Peanut or grapeseed oil works great. You can swap out the granulated sugar for brown sugar or even just use icing sugar too. I would just watch the measurements and add little by little till you are satisfied with the sweetness.

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

I love roasted chickpeas as they are high in protein and a healthier alternative to other crunchy snacks like chips! The pumpkin spice/sugar mixture is similar to having a fresh warm cinnamon sugar pretzel! Each bite you take is filled with pumpkin spice sugar and it’s so good!

HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?

These pumpkin spice chickpeas snacks last for about a week in an airtight container! If they even last a week! I suggest that when you make these to let them cool then immediately portion them in airtight containers to avoid opening and closing the whole batch. You want to keep them as crunchy as possible!

WHAT GOES WITH THESE PUMPKIN SPICE CHICKPEAS?

This Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas is perfect to have as a weekly high protein snack or even as a dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. Some other food items that go well with pumpkin spice chickpeas are:

  • Any Drink – Coffee, Tea, Juice or Smoothies etc. are awesome to eat alongside this!
  • Yogurt – You could top your yogurt with these as well!
  • Ice Cream – If you’re looking for a crunch with your cold ice cream, these are perfect
  • Parfait Topping – Try smashing these instead of granola! Greek yogurt and chickpeas are both excellent sources of protain

WHAT ARE OTHER VARIATIONS OF PUMPKIN SPICE CHICKPEAS?

Some other variations of Pumpkin Spice Chickpeas that I love and is on my list are:

  • Cinnamon Sugar Chickpeas – These ones are probably the closest to pumpkin spice chickpeas!
  • Maple Cinnamon Roasted Chickpeas – Maple is a great Fall flavour and would do well as a chickpea flavour
  • Sweet & Spicy Roasted Chickpeas – Love these sweet chickpeas with a kick of heat!
  • Crispy Cocoa Air Fryer Chickpeas – Oh man, this is the next thing I’m making! Crunchy chocolate chickpeas sound amazing

MORE CRUNCHY CHICKPEAS RECIPES?

Some other savoury crunchy chickpeas recipes are:

  • Honey Mustard Roasted Chickpeas– I love honey mustard! These sounds awesome
  • Everything Bagel Roasted Chickpeas – Everything but the bagel seasoning?! Yes please!
  • BBQ Roasted Chickpeas – Tangy BBQ flavour with crunchy chickpeas?! It’ll feel no different than eating BBQ chips
  • Easy Roasted Buffalo Chickpeas – Yum! I love Buffalo Chickpeas. I often top it in my salad. Roasting them would elevate these so well!
  • Salt & Vinegar Roasted Chickpeas – Salt and Vinegar is the best flavour! Perfect for a tangy flavour and snack

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS DISH?

I loved getting this idea to make these! I love incorporating easy snacks and recipes and wanted to make something that was vegetarian and vegan friendly.

I also love Fall flavours and although I normally have savoury chickpeas, I knew that I needed to create sweet ones and that it would be just as good!

I tend to try and put pumpkin spice in everything so it just made sense to make sweet pumpkin spice chickpeas!

HOW CAN I MEAL PREP THIS RECIPE?

Like I mentioned above, these pumpkin chickpeas are super easy to have as a snack every day! I suggest that you portion them out and put the portion into each container soon after they’ve cooled. You want them to keep being as crunchy and fresh as possible!

I usually try and split these into 4-5 portions in small ziplock baggies and just keep them on the counter.

COST OF THIS PUMPKIN SPICE CHICKPEAS?

Based on my groceries in CAD, if you were buying EVERYTHING from scratch:

  • 1 Can of Chickpeas (540ml) – $1.95
  • Vanilla Extract (46ml) â€“ $7.65
  • Olive Oil (500g) â€“ $8.75
  • Pumpkin Spice (50 g) -$5.45
  • Ground Cinnamon (150 g) â€“ $2.70
  • Granulated Sugar (2000 g) â€“ $3.25

Total: $29.75 (not all the ingredients were used and leftovers can be used for other recipes)

As all of these ingredients are new, if you just priced out the actual ingredients used in this pumpkin spice chickpeas, it would come up to about $4.

ANY OTHER NOTES?

You can roast your chickpeas to your desire! I tend to burn mine a little bit as I love that extra dry crunch! Again, try to not open the chickpea containers to avoid them going stale. Remember that you toss the chickpeas in the pumpkin spice sugar mixture after! If you toss them beforehand, the sugar will easily burn before the chickpeas are fully roasted and crunchy.
