HERE IS HOW TO MAKE TOFU ADOBO:

WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?

You can find the ingredients for Tofu Adobo at various locations:

  1. Grocery Stores: Look for tofu in the refrigerated or produce section. Ingredients like soy sauce, vinegar, garlic, and bay leaves are usually found in the international or condiments aisle.
  2. Asian Markets: These often have a wider selection of tofu and specialty ingredients like Filipino soy sauce (such as Silver Swan or Datu Puti) and vinegar (like cane vinegar).
  3. Supermarkets: Many larger supermarkets also carry international ingredients, offering a variety of tofu and Asian condiments.
  4. Online Retailers: Purchase specific Filipino ingredients online if they are not available in local stores, ensuring you have everything you need to prepare delicious Tofu Adobo.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients for this delicious Tofu Adobo are:

  • Extra Firm Tofu
  • Dark Soy Sauce
  • Regular Soy Sauce
  • Garlic
  • Onion
  • Bay Leaves
  • Brown Sugar
  • Vinegar
  • Oil (your preference)
  • Water

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

You don’t need a lot for this recipe! It’s super easy to make everything in one pot! A shallow sauce pot and some kitchen utensils are all you need in terms of the cooking portion. After that, to do prep, you’ll just want a cutting board and some knives and it can be from anywhere!

These are some of my favorite things from Amazon:

CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?

You sure can! This recipe is a super simple recipe to follow however, if you feel like adding anything, please do!

Obviously, this is a great vegan and vegetarian dish to enjoy. If you want to add some more vegetables to this, you can! Asian vegetables like bok choy and gai lan are excellent in this dish, You can also add some kale or broccoli!

If you’re not vegan or vegetarian and you want to add some protein, you can as well. Adobo is popularly made with pork or chicken. You can also add beef too!

Aside from this, keep the sauce as is! Filipino adobo sauce base consists of garlic, pepper, soy sauce, and vinegar so if you change this, it won’t taste like Filipino adobo anymore!

WHAT DOES TOFU ADOBO TASTE LIKE?

Tofu Adobo boasts a savory, tangy, and aromatic taste:

  1. Savory: Tofu absorbs the rich flavors of soy sauce and vinegar, creating a savory base with a depth of umami taste.
  2. Tangy: Vinegar contributes a tangy kick that balances the savory notes, offering a slightly acidic yet delightful taste.
  3. Aromatic: Garlic and bay leaves infuse a fragrant aroma, enhancing the overall flavor profile with their herbal and pungent notes.
  4. Tender Tofu: Tofu, when cooked in the Adobo sauce, becomes tender and absorbs the savory-sweet flavors, making each bite rich and satisfying.

HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?

Tofu Adobo can typically be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. The flavors tend to deepen and develop further, enhancing its taste over time. I love eating adobo with some hot white rice the day after because it takes in the sauce even more!

This recipe is also awesome for meal prep so you can prepare this in containers with white rice and heat it up for lunch!

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?

Adobo has always been a staple in my Filipino household. It’s the easiest to make and is so tasty. My mom always made it with either chicken or pork which is delicious but I love including tofu or meat alternatives in my meal rotations!

I try and make vegan/vegetarian foods when I can and do a day or two a week of not meat-less meals! I also just looooove tofu so I knew this would be a delicious twist on a Filipino classic dish!

ANY OTHER NOTES?

No other notes on this one! Enjoy it on a bed of hot white rice and scoop a lot of delicious sauce on top.

I love tofu but never really make good use of it myself (which I really should). I feel like this is the idea; recipe to give a try as the flavours sound a-maz-ing, and it’s not complicated to put together. I will have to give this a try!

As a vegetarian, I regularly eat tofu, but I haven’t had Tofu Adobo before. The tofu looks so good, and I’ll have to try it one day!
