I love blackberries and love picking them up from the farmers market or grocery store during the summertime! I feel like blackberries are the most underrated berry, but they are SO GOOD. Last year, I made this delicious Blackberry Lemon Loaf and I was obsessed!! I couldn’t stop sneaking a slice that I single-handedly ate the whole loaf myself within a few days 😂
I have been on a banana bread kick lately so I wanted to try adding blackberries and it worked so well! If you’re a looking for a cozy Fall inspired bake yet are still in summer mode, this is the best of both worlds!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE BLACKBERRY BANANA BREAD:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
If you’ve ever made banana bread before or love baking in general, you should already know or have the ingredients but luckily, the ingredients for this can be found in most grocery stores! I know blackberries usually thrive in North America so if you’re reading this from a different continent, you may struggle! I hope you can find everything though! You’ll need bananas, butter, vanilla, eggs, white sugar, baking soda, salt, flour, cinnamon, and of course, blackberries! The grocery aisle that you’ll need to find all of this are the pantry section, dairy section and produce section!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
Here are the ingredients to make this classic banana bread recipe with a summery, fruit twist!
- Ripe Bananas
- Unsalted Butter
- Vanilla Extract
- Eggs
- White Sugar
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- All Purpose Flour
- Cinnamon
- Sweet Blackberries
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
If you already bake regularly, you should already have all the equipment but if not, you’ll need a large mixing bowl, some mixing cups and spoons, a spatula, and a loaf pan! If you don’t have a loaf pan specifically, use any tall baking dish you have! I honestly have made banana bread in square pans with no issues!
Here are some of my Amazon kitchen and baking favs!
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
I have to admit, my baking skills are super basic! I am not one to really experiment with baking substitutions, so if you make any substitutions, note that there may be a big difference! I do have fabulous ideas for some additions, though! Here are some ways to spruce up your blackberry banana bread:
- Add some chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, almonds or pistachios
- Add some ground cardamom, nutmeg, or cloves for that extra fall taste
- Add chocolate chips for some EXTRA sweetness
- Add other fruits like mixed berries, either fresh or frozen
- Make a cream cheese frosting to spread on top
WHAT DOES BLACKBERRY BANANA BREAD TASTE LIKE?
Oh man, think classic banana bread but with a juicy plot twist! This loaf is soft, sweet, and banana-forward, but just when you think you know what’s coming, in swoops a burst of tangy and sweet blackberry to shake things up. It’s like your favourite comfort food went berry-picking and came back a little sassier. It is the perfect transition baked good from Summer to Fall!
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
This banana bread keeps super well! I live in a two-person household at this time, so I like to freeze my banana bread, and it lasts me a month! I usually keep slices in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 4 days, but the rest, I would tightly wrap in Saran Wrap and keep in the freezer! I just take a piece the evening before and heat it up with some butter and flaky salt as an afternoon snack or dessert! No difference in texture with freezing at all! Just be sure it is tightly wrapped.
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
I have always loved blackberries! My mom and I used to pick some with her every summer in the parks! They would be wild blackberries, and some would be so sour, but they were so fun to find! Whenever I go to the farmers market or grocery store, I can almost eye what blackberries will be sweet, so you bet I will pick some up! It didn’t even occur to me that I can put them in baked goods until the last few years, and I LOVE IT!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
You can use fresh or frozen berries! I’ve tried both and honestly, don’t see that much of a difference! The real trick here is to choose sweet blackberries to include in this recipe 🙂
