HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A CLASSIC BANANA BREAD:
WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?
The ingredients for this banana bread are simple pantry staples that you can find at almost any grocery store. Flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and butter are usually found in the baking aisle, while bananas and eggs can be found in the produce and refrigerated sections.
This recipe NEEDS overripe bananas, so if you plan to make this for a certain occasion, make sure you give your bananas a few days to get super ripe on the counter!
WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?
These are the ingredients for a delicious Classic Banana Bread:
- 3 ripe bananas
- 125g salted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
Honestly, you can mix this all in one bowl if you wanted to! I usually melt the butter in the bowl but still use measuring cups/spoons. This recipe is super easy and you’ll only need a few basic kitchen tools:
- Large mixing bowl
- Fork or potato masher
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Kitchen scale for measuring the butter
- Whisk or spatula
- 9×5-inch loaf pan
- Parchment paper or non-stick spray
- Oven
CAN I SUBSTITUTE/ADD ANYTHING OUT?
Absolutely! Banana bread is one of those recipes that’s easy to customize.
You can substitute salted butter with unsalted butter and add a small pinch of salt to the batter. I honestly have done both but I don’t know if it’s just me but salted butter just makes it so much tastier than me adding my own salt. Might be just me in my own head but I swear by it!
If you’d like to experiment with different flavours, try adding:
- Chocolate chips
- Chopped walnuts or pecans
- Berries (try my Blackberry Banana Bread!)
- Shredded coconut
- A little nutmeg
- Cocoa Powder
You can also sprinkle a little cinnamon sugar over the top before baking for a sweet, slightly crunchy crust.
WHAT DOES CLASSIC BANANA BREAD TASTE LIKE?
Classic Banana Bread is sweet, buttery, moist, and full of warm banana flavor. The ripe bananas give the loaf a naturally sweet and fruity taste, while the cinnamon adds a cozy warmth that makes it taste like a classic homemade baked good. It’s probably my fav baked good but I only ever eat it at home. I feel like I make it so much that I don’t even bother to buy it at a bakery haha
The outside develops a lightly golden crust while the inside stays soft and tender. It’s comforting, nostalgic, and just sweet enough to enjoy on its own with a cup of coffee or tea.
HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?
Banana bread can be stored:
- At room temperature: 2–3 days in an airtight container.
- In the refrigerator: Up to 1 week, tightly wrapped or stored in an airtight container.
- In the freezer: Up to 2–3 months when wrapped well and placed in a freezer-safe bag or container.
For the best texture, allow refrigerated banana bread to come to room temperature before serving.
Hot Tip! Warmed with some butter on top is my fav way to eat this!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS RECIPE?
I’ve been so into banana bread everything that there is always something banana bread flavoured in my house! At the time I’m typing this, there are 2 banana bread loaves and banana bread syrup in my fridge right now haha
Banana bread is just so comforting!! I’ll never be tired!
ANY OTHER NOTES?
- The riper the bananas, the better! Bananas with lots of brown spots will give your bread more sweetness and banana flavor.
- Don’t overmix the batter once you add the flour. Mix just until the ingredients are combined to keep the bread soft and tender.
- Let the banana bread cool before slicing so it has time to set.
- For an extra pretty loaf, slice a banana lengthwise and place it on top of the batter before baking.
- If your bananas aren’t quite ripe enough, you can let them ripen on the counter for a few more days.
