Do you have a go-to lunch that never disappoints? This Easy Classic Tuna Salad is it for me!

I have a scoop of this on my salads, lettuce wraps or an open-faced sandwich and it’s never a miss. With this recipe, you always know what it’s going to taste like and for someone like me who always experiments with food, it’s nice to have a classic recipe that I can always count on!

I know a lot of people don’t eat seafood so luckily, this can be subbed with whatever canned protein you’d like!

What’s a classic lunch staple that you have frequently? I’d love to know in the comments below!

Classic Tuna Salad - Pin 1

I’m an all-I-need-is-coffee type of girl! As soon as I have a coffee in my hand first thing in the morning, all is good in the world!

Lunch is always a hard meal for me as I always get lazy and push eating for as long as possible and sometimes by the time I check it’s already late in the afternoon!

I usually have canned tuna in the house so this is something that’s super easy for me to whip up last minute.

Do you have tuna salad for lunch? What do you put in yours?! Let me know in the comments below!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE Easy Classic Tuna Salad:

WHERE CAN I FIND THESE INGREDIENTS?

This is an easy pantry recipe as well! Everything you need is from your local grocery store and kept in the pantry such as mayo, mustard and canned tuna. Aside from that, the only vegetables I put in this is red onion and celery to add a fresh crunch.

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS?

The ingredients used in this Easy Classic Tuna Salad are:

  • Canned Tuna
  • Celery
  • Red Onion
  • Mayo
  • Mustard
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Lemon
  • Salt
  • Pepper

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

This recipe doesn’t require anything special which is nice! You’ll just need a bowl to combine everything together and a can opener for the tuna. Other than that, you don’t need to cook anything and you can easily store this in an airtight container and leave in the fridge.

CAN I SUB ANYTHING OUT?

You sure can! I’m always big on subbing ingredients out. You can use anything canned protein such as chicken, salmon, crab and if you want to make this vegetarian you can do beans or peas. If you want to make this healthier, you can do greek yogurt or sour cream but it definitely will change the flavour!

I’ve added garlic mayo, chipotle mayo, and bacon mayo to this and each tasted great but again not everyone likes mayo and also mayo is decadent and rich!

If you want to make this recipe vegan, you can substitute the mayo for vegan mayo or cream cheese. Onion and celery are pretty standard for tuna salad but of course, you can add whatever you desire for a crunch like cucumbers, bell peppers or tomato!

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

The two prominent flavours are tuna and mayo so that’s exactly what you’d expect. The mustard and lemon give it a good kick. The onion and celery give it a crunchy bite. This is the perfect creamy and savoury lunch!

HOW LONG DOES IT KEEP FOR?

This Easy Classic Tuna Salad SHOULD be eaten immediately but if you’re like me and like to portion meals accordingly, I suggest just splitting it and having it for lunch the next day. If you keep it for longer, it tends to get a little watery.

WHAT GOES IN THIS CLASSIC TUNA SALAD?

  • A scoop on top of your favorite salad
  • Lettuce boats/wraps
  • Sandwich Filling
  • Tortilla Chips
  • Stuffed in a vegetable like cucumber or bell pepper

ANY OTHER NOTES?

No notes for this one! A classic tuna salad that it beloved and enjoyed time and time again!

This looks fantastic! I absolutely love tuna salad and tuna in general. This is like the best looking recipe for a tuna salad that I have seen for a while. I saw recently someone put avocado on their tuna sandwich and I think your recipe with avocado and perhaps and hard boiled egg could possibly be the most delicious sandwich on Earth. Haha. At least to me! I am trying this asap. Love your recipes! Not to mention your food photography is fab. Another great one Lynn!
