HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A DIY SUN & SKY COSTUME:

WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE MATERIALS TO MAKE THIS DIY SUN & SKY COSTUME?

Most of the materials needed to make this costume can be found anywhere! Hopefully, you should have a majority of things, but I usually can easily find things at my local dollar store or craft store. I already had a blue dress, white shoes, thin headband, glue gun and fabric tape in my closet so I just picked up some white and yellow felt sheets and some pretty sun jewelry! Everything cost me about $10 that I had to purchase extra of!

WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THIS DIY SUN AND SKY COSTUME?

CAN I SUBSTITUTE ANY MATERIALS OUT?

I always encourage creativity with any costumes! If there are any materials that I use that you’d like to switch, please do! I like to make things as easy as possible so for me, that is felt fabric sheets and fabric tape! I like being any to use my clothes again instead of using a piece of clothing once for a DIY costume! You can use glue instead of fabric tape if you want to keep the costume forever and maybe try transfer sheets for fabric! This would be a more long-term DIY!

DOES THE COSTUME LAST TO USE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEARS?

Absolutely! Fabric tape has never done me wrong and is quite sturdy. If you want to preserve this costume to use for years to come, make sure that each cloud is stuck onto your dress properly or you can take the clouds apart and store them in a ziplock or container and just tape it every time you want to use this costume. I would recommend keeping the headband as is as I use glue for this part, but of course, you can also just easily rebuild this part whenever!

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PUT TOGETHER?

This costume took me a full hour! It’s always the cutting that takes the longest for me, but I generally just take my time and cut while I play a show in the background. Taping sometimes can also take me some time but luckily the pieces for this are quite big, so I don’t need to cut the tape into super small pieces. A full hour should suffice to put this together, start to finish!

INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS COSTUME?

I’ve been wanting to get creative with costumes and try to make things as easy and budget-friendly as possible! I know that costumes can be so expensive to purchase as a whole or even just put together, and let’s be real, it’s truly not worth it! Some costumes are just worn once with no other purpose and it would be much more worthwhile to purchase regular everyday clothes! I looked into my closet and crafts bin and an idea popped into my head! I could make a cute and quick sun and sky costume! I was originally going to make a sun only costume but the blue dress and clouds wasn’t something I could pass up!

Here are some of the costume elements you can buy online!

STEPS TO PUT TOGETHER THIS DIY SUN AND SKY COSTUME:

Step 1: Cut out clouds out of white fabric sheet and use fabric tape to place them on your dress.

Cut as many as you want and be free with the design! I just freehand cut all the clouds and placed them on my dress until I was happy with what it looks like.

Step 2: Cut out yellow sun rays out of the yellow fabric sheet and glue them onto your headband.

I cut about 5 sun rays and and placed them evenly on my headband. I used hot glue to stick them on.

Step 3: Wear your sun jewellry, put your outfit together and enjoy!

Thank you so much for following this blog post on how to create a DIY Sun and Sky Costume!
