What character did you fight to be when you played Super Mario with your friends and family? I know it would probably seem like I would pick Princess Peach as a girly girl, but NAH. I have always been drawn to cute characters and often like the cute little side pets in shows and movies instead of the main character, hahaha 🍄
I love Toad and always choose him! He’s so cute, and although I wasn’t a hardcore gamer, I always giggle when I see Toad!!

HERE IS HOW TO MAKE A DIY MARIO TOAD COSTUME:
WHERE CAN YOU FIND THE MATERIALS TO MAKE THIS DIY MARIO TOAD COSTUME?
This is of course another costume where you can basically use what you have at home! Hopefully everyone has an all white dress or outfit but if not, you can easily thrift or purchase something quick! I had a white dress and white bucket hat already but had to purchase a blue denim vest. I purchased mine off Shein but I am weaning away from purchasing my Shein!
Aside from this, you’ll need some red and yellow fabric sheets and some fabric tape then some brown shoes! I had both at home already but again, super easy to purchase anywhere! You can get single fabric sheets from Michael’s for under $1 each.
WHAT ARE THE MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THIS DIY MARIO TOAD COSTUME?

CAN I SUBSTITUTE ANY MATERIALS OUT?
You sure can! I always try my best to get as close to the character as possible, but it is never a must! Use what you already have! Halloween or any costume party should not break the bank. This is exactly why I love creating DIYs costumes! I am someone who tries their best to save where I can, and I can’t imagine spending all that money just to wear a costume for a day/night! That’s insanity to me!
Using fabric tape also allows you to reuse your articles of clothing too! I have used the same white dress for multiple events and different DIY costumes that you see on the blog.
DOES THE COSTUME LAST TO USE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEARS?
It sure can! Luckily, this costume uses such few materials, is super cheap and the clothing pieces that you would normally have or would reuse! A lot of the costumes I create have a black or white dress base, so I always use what I already have. This costume DIY uses fabric tape, so you can easily remove the pieces if needed and you can store them for next time use, but if you accidentally rip or ruin any of the pieces, you can also easily cut and tape them up again!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PUT TOGETHER?
This costume was super quick to put together! Altogether, it took me about 45 minutes to cut and tape everything together. The most time-consuming part for me was cutting the tape and taping it onto the vest. I had to cut thin strips so that the tape was not visible, but aside from that, the yellow strips for the vest were quite easy to cut, and the red circles for the hat were also super easy to cut!
INSPIRATIONS FOR THIS COSTUME?
Actually, I thought of trying this costume last Halloween! I came across someone who also made a Toad costume and thought Oh, I’m totally trying this! It has been on my list of DIY costumes ever since, so I’ve been excited to make this for a year, haha. I always look at inspo from others or on social media and figure out how to do it myself, so I’m not copying them at all! I always put my own style into everything I do, so it is always original 🤎
Here are some of the costume elements you can buy online!
STEPS TO PUT TOGETHER THIS DIY MARIO TOAD COSTUME:
Step 1: Cut out thin yellow strips and red circles for your vest and hat.
The amount of yellow strips you would need depends on your vest size so just cut enough to outline your vest. For the red circles on your white bucket hat, I used cut 4, one on the front and back and one on each side of the hat.
Step 2: Tape all of your yellow and red fabric pieces to your vest and hat.
Tape all your red circles to your hat and yellow strips along your vest! You’ll need lots of fabric tape for this!
Step 3: Once all the fabric pieces are securely taped, put your costume together!
Wear your white dress, vest, brown shoes and hat and enjoy your evening! You can accessorize however you’d like!
