I’m so excited to be finally releasing my mini-series called 3 Course Valentine’s Day Meal! If you’ve been following me on any social platforms, I’ve been meaning to get onto Youtube again for the longest time! Last year, I was releasing videos every week and while it was fun, it was draining.

I put too much pressure on myself way too fast. Took a good long break and reevaluated what I wanted in life and being on Youtube was part of it!

I filmed 3 videos releasing today – Monday, February 8, Wednesday, February 10, and Friday, February 12th! An appetizer, main course and dessert and as you can tell from today, we’re making Crispy Garlic Shrimp Bites!

I loved making this and it was actually mine and my husband’s breakfast! If you know me, you know that I usually have designated film days. This means I schedule everything I want to film and do it all in one day. I know this is crazy and my husband always says that I take on too much for one day but honestly, this is mostly because I can’t be bothered to look nice and put on makeup more than once a week haha.

This was so easy and so simple and I can’t wait to make this again! Now, this is not my original recipe. I was inspired by @cookingwithmisschung on Tiktok and revised some of the ingredients to make it my own!

Here is the original Tiktok and I hope you share some love to Jennie Nguyen! All her food looks amazing and I love watching her.

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE Crispy Garlic Shrimp Bites:

Where can I find these ingredients?

All of these ingredients can be found at your local grocery store as well as Asian grocery stores. The Asian ingredients in this recipe are usually available in any grocery store now. I just got all these from Superstore which is a big chain grocery store near me. Depending on where you are in the world, it may be harder to get these ingredients but of course, you can always sub some things out as you please!

What are the ingredients?

  • 300 g of raw shrimp
  • 5-6 Cloves of Garlic
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 1 Package of Egg Roll Wrapper OR Wonton Wrapper
  • 113 g (or 1/2 stick) of Salted Butter
  • 1 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder OR Flakes
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar

Can I sub anything out?

You totally can! What I absolutely love about cooking and sharing recipes is the fact that you’re able to modify them as much as you’d like to fit your taste buds! I think using tofu would be just as good. If you haven’t read my post on The Easiest Tofu Marinade, you can definitely use this recipe! If shrimps aren’t working, you could also swap it out for any ground meat. As far as the egg roll/wonton wrapper, you could try using phyllo pastry if you like crunch and maybe biscuit dough if you want it to be more heavy and chewy. You could garnish this with just about anything as well! Parsley, cilantro, roasted garlic, cream fresca etc.

What does it taste like?

If you’ve ever had an egg roll, obviously the same crunch and some garlic and shrimp. Some dim sum places have garlic shrimp spring rolls and it’s super good. I really like the addition of avocado because it’s a refreshing, creamy addition to your bite. It stabilizes the taste of garlic.

Crispy Garlic Shrimp Bites

This recipe is the best garlic shrimp appetizer! Super easy to make and is a definite crowdpleaser.
Prep Time:10 minutes
Cook Time:10 minutes
Course: Appetizer
Servings: 4 people

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Pan/Stove
  • Mini Muffin Tin

Ingredients

  • 300 Grams Raw Shrimp Peeled, Cleaned and Cut into 3 pieces
  • 5-6 Cloves Garlic Minced
  • 113 Grams Salted Butter (1/2 stick)
  • 1 Half Avocado
  • 1 Package Egg Roll Wrapper (wonton wrapper is fine too)
  • 1 Tsp Sesame Oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Chili Flakes (chili can be used but will be a little bit spicier)
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Pepper
  • 1/2 Tsp White Sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350 F.
  • Cut your wonton wrappers into 3" by 3" squares. Place each square into the muffin tin and spread the sides to create an opening in the centre.
  • Bake wrappers for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Take all the seasonings and place them in the bowl of shrimp to marinate for a few minutes.
  • Once the wonton wrappers are done, take them out of the oven and let cool.
  • Now, heat your pan on medium/high heat.
  • Melt the 1/2 stick of butter and garlic cloves.
  • Once the garlic is nice and fragrant, cook shrimp for about 4-6 Minutes and turn off stove. Be careful not to overcook the shrimp as it turns rubbery. You can turn off the stove early to avoid this and let the shrimp cook in the residual heat.
  • Let the shrimp cool and cut your avocado open.
  • Now that everything has cooled down, it is time to assemble! In each wonton wrapper, add a spoon full of the cooked shrimp and scoop out a bit of avocado to place on top. Repeat, serve and enjoy!

I hope you enjoyed reading this recipe and it inspires you to try this soon! I honestly loved it so much and I can’t wait to make it again.
